At EQuest Consulting we utilise a proven Capability Maturity Model (CMM) as the foundation for our project management capability improvement engagements. It covers the spectrum of knowledge areas as defined by the Project Management Institute’s (PMI) Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK) and the project management components of the Software Engineering Institute’s (SEI) CMMI framework.

“Helping
organisations mature to achieve business success” |
|
The first step to maturity is to understand the current situation. We use our CMM to determine where a client’s current project management capability level is. This can be achieved through facilitated workshops using an online assessment tool to gather information and evidence about an organisation’s project management practices. A set of reports is produced that show the CMM levels determined for each process area.

One size does not fit all, so we always ascertain a client’s business demands of its projects. For example, is time to market usually the biggest imperative, or is creating high quality outputs to exacting requirements? This understanding helps us to determine the gaps in the client’s project management capability that must be filled to meet its business demands.
Our experienced consultants create a roadmap to maturity that clearly identifies what needs to be addressed and how it can be done. It is not just a set of recommendations, it is a practical step by step guide of what needs to be worked on, prioritised and explained in detail. Our roadmaps to maturity can be handed over to internal staff to carry out, or we can stay on to help implement them.
