The Challenge
A PMO had been set up to service the project management support requirements of a major compliance program being undertaken by the bank. The PMO had been operating for a year and the program’s management were not convinced it was delivering its planned benefits. The objective of the health check was to identify, assess and isolate areas of concern and make recommendations to correct and resolve process issues.

How EQuest Consulting Met the Challenge
The health check considered the following focus areas for assessment:
  • Skills and People
  • Project Administration
  • Continual Improvement
  • PMO Processes
  • Methodology Application
  • Standards
  • Support Tools
  • Project Management Support
  • Change Management
Working with the program’s management, EQuest Consulting drew up an interview schedule comprising the PMO team, the program’s stream leaders, the program’s management team, selected business unit management and staff and members of the program’s governance group.

Following the interviews and a review of program documentation, we undertook an analysis of the information gathered. The derived conclusions and recommendations were then reviewed and questioned independently by other senior EQuest Consulting staff not involved in the interview process.

Following the presentation of our results to the program’s management, we were asked to “roll up our sleeves” and action our recommended changes.

The Benefits

The health check identified areas of concern that were not immediately apparent to the program’s management team.

Conducting the health check sent a positive message to the program and the affected business units by demonstrating that management took the role of the PMO seriously and was willing to invest in improving its processes.

We were able to structure our recommendations and changes to best effect by introducing quick wins that provided significant benefits for marginal cost.
