The Coomera Town Centre at the Foxwell Road site is starting to come up; if you drive past the site, you will see trucks and machinery laying the groundwork for the $1 billion dollar project. For now, work on the first stage has begun, with $500 million being pumped to construct cinemas, offices and a nightclub, all covering 61,000 sqm. The second stage will encompass 21,000 sq m of commercial retail spaces, a dining precinct, a department store
with multiple levels, and an outdoor beach. The chair of the Gold Coast City Council planning committee Cameron Caldwell is optimistic about future prospects and believes that the town centre is only the beginning of a ‘planning dream’ that will encourage billions worth of projects in the scenic suburb. Expectations are high; after all, the town centre – once complete – will be the biggest shopping complex in northern Gold Coast. And it has already started attracting developers to the vicinity. One of the slated projects is a mixed – use high rise about two kilometres from the town centre. Development plans indicate a shopping centre, an entire office floor, and four levels of residential units, after considering potential move – ins into the suburb as it evolves steadily. Another is the Foreshore Coomera residential project between the Coomera River and Oakey Creek. It will comprise of 750 homes enjoying river views.
