Gold Coast Light Rail Stage 2

Stage 2 of GCLR is in full swing and expected to be operational in time for next year’s Commonwealth Games. This will be a 7.3 kilometer light rail link connecting Surfers Parad
ise and Helensvale. This stage – costing $420 million – provides integrated public transport and convenient connectivity with heavy rail. Once the new Park wood East station is ready, Park
wood residents will be able to get to the Helensvale heavy rail station in seven minutes. The station will feature the
following:
– A park ‘n’ ride facility accommodating 1,000 vehicle parking spaces
– A kiss ‘n’ ride area
– New pedestrian crossings with signals to help people cross Smith Street safely
– Disability accessibility parking
– Arrangement for motorcycles
– Taxi bay facilities
Those commuting from Helensvale to Broadbeach South will spend about 47 minutes in transit.
Commuting times will reduce for people who need to travel to Brisbane for work. Infrastructure
Minister Jackie Trad said that when the light rail opens in early 2018, people relying on public
transport will have ‘a seamless, one – transfer rail journey between Brisbane and the Gold Coast.’
